NICEIC Domestic Installer
City & Guilds qualified
TrustATrader memberA qualified electrician in Bedminster you can actually get hold of
Ben Sheppard Electrics is a small, hands-on electrical contractor based in Bristol. You deal with the electrician who does the work — not a call centre, not a rotating cast of subcontractors. That is why so much of our work comes from customers who have used us before, or from someone they told.
We cover the full range of domestic and small commercial electrical services: rewires, consumer unit upgrades, electrical inspections and EICR testing, electrical repairs and fault finding, lighting design, garden and security lighting, CCTV and additional power points.
Every job is quoted clearly before it starts, carried out to BS 7671, and certified in writing when it is done.

What our customers say
Paraphrased from reviews left by customers across Bristol.
Ben is now the electrician I call for everything. Trustworthy, reliable and I would happily recommend him to anyone.
AronHomeowner, Bristol
Ben has done several different jobs for us over the past year or so and we have been really happy every time. It is great to have a reliable electrician to call on when you need one.
MarkRepeat customer
Ben handled a full rewire for us, plus the extra changes we asked for along the way. Communication was good before and during the two weeks he was with us, and we were happy to leave him with access to the house while we were away. Clearly knows his trade — we have already recommended him to friends.

Covering Bedminster and the surrounding Bristol areas
Bedminster sits right at the middle of our patch. From Southville, Windmill Hill and Ashton Gate out to Bedminster Down and Totterdown, across the river to Redcliffe, Harbourside, Hotwells and Clifton, and on to Long Ashton and Leigh Woods — if you are in or around Bristol, we can almost certainly get to you.
A lot of the housing around Bedminster and Southville is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, much of it now converted into flats. Solid walls, lath and plaster, shared supplies and landlord communal circuits are everyday work for us, not a surprise.
Electrician in Bedminster — your questions answered
The questions we get asked most often about electrical services, inspections and repairs in Bristol.
Do you cover Bedminster and the surrounding Bristol areas?
Yes. Bedminster is at the centre of our patch, and we work right across the surrounding Bristol areas including Southville, Windmill Hill, Ashton Gate, Bedminster Down, Totterdown, Redcliffe, Harbourside, Hotwells, Clifton and Long Ashton. You can see the full list on our coverage page — if your address is not on it, call and ask, because we can often still help.
What electrical services do you offer in Bedminster?
Everything from a single extra socket to a full house rewire: electrical inspections and EICR testing, electrical repairs and fault finding, consumer unit upgrades, lighting design and installation, garden and security lighting, security systems and CCTV, and additional sockets and power points. Both domestic and small commercial work. The full breakdown is on our services page.
Are you a qualified and registered electrician?
Yes. Ben Sheppard Electrics is City & Guilds qualified, an NICEIC Domestic Installer and a member of TrustATrader. That means the work is carried out to BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations), notified to Building Control where Part P requires it, and certified in writing when it is finished.
How much does an electrician cost in Bedminster?
It depends entirely on the job, so we do not publish a fixed price list — a consumer unit change and a five-bedroom rewire are very different pieces of work. Tell us what you need, and you will get a clear, itemised, no-obligation quote before anything is booked in. There are no surprise charges added at the end.
How often should I have an electrical inspection?
For a home you live in, the general recommendation is an Electrical Installation Condition Report at least every ten years, or whenever you buy a property. If you let a property in England, the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector Regulations require a satisfactory EICR at least every five years and before a new tenancy begins.
My fuse board keeps tripping — can you find the fault?
Yes, that is one of the most common electrical repairs we are called out for. A breaker or RCD that trips repeatedly is telling you something real is wrong on that circuit. We isolate it, test insulation resistance and continuity, and narrow it down to the exact cable, accessory or appliance causing it, rather than swapping parts and hoping.
Do you provide certificates when the work is finished?
Always. Depending on the job you will receive an Electrical Installation Certificate, a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate or an Electrical Installation Condition Report. Keep it safe — it is what your insurer, a buyer's solicitor or a letting agent will ask for.
How quickly can you come out?
It depends on what is already booked in that week and on how urgent the fault is. Give us a call or send an enquiry and we will tell you honestly when we can get to you rather than promise something we cannot keep.
How do I get a quote?
Call 07828 845323, email bensheppardelectrics@hotmail.com or fill in the callback form. Describe the job, add a photo if it helps, and you will get a clear written quote back with no obligation to go ahead.
